Jale was born and raised in Adana, Turkey. After earning a degree in Economics, she undertook studies specializing in women's history and obtained a Masters degree in Political Science from Ankara University. In 1992, she became a licensed guide and began leading adventure travel tours.
She has led trips for many of the major adventure companies in the US. In 1997, she established her own company, Blue Odyssey, which offers custom designed tours throughout Turkey. Among her offerings are a women's history tour, family yacht charters, and a pioneering sea kayaking adventure using a traditional wooden yacht as a mother ship. Based in Oakland during the winter, she spends her summers guiding and outfitting along the Turquoise Coast of Turkey where she lives with her husband and 19 month old son.
