Proceedings of 1998 "Way To Go, A New Travel Expo"

      The "Way To Go A New Travel Expo," organized by Partners In Responsible Tourism, was held on February 1, 1998 at the Marriott Hotel in San Francisco. The keynote address was made by Helen Nodland, an internationally renown expert on adventure travel and eco-tourism. An in-depth Seminar Program was offered and audio tapes of each seminar are available from PIRT.  Seminars included:

* Finding the Way- Global Green Networking with Marcus Endicott, moderator of the international Green Travel Network;

* The Marine Way-Trends in Marine Tourism with Paul Walsh of Glacier Bay Tours and Cruises and Dr. Richard Murphy of the Jean-Michael Cousteau Institute

* The Green Way of Lodging- Ecolodges and Green Hotels with HVS Eco-Services an international consulting firm and green lodging certification company

* Leading the Way-Trends In Latin American Ecotourism with Ron Mader of El Planeta Platica, and Audrey Patterson owner of Tread Lightly

* Guiding the Way- Connecting the Community and Ecotourist through Naturalist Guides with Catherine Evans of Tours of Exploration and Dr. Patrick Tierney of Adrift Adventures and San Francisco State University. A copy of Dr. Tierney's talk is posted at this site Guide Talk .

     The expo was sponsored by Partners in Responsible Tourism (PIRT), a network of individuals and representatives of organizations and tourism companies in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond who are concerned about worldwide impacts of tourism on cultures and environments; and Princess Cruises, winner of the 1996 ASTA/Smithsonian Environment Award.
